The story that free markets are soulless and materialistic is one of the most damaging of our culture’s narratives. In this episode, we take on that narrative, both in theory, and in practice.
I am very fortunate to have been joined by Joyce Brand for this episode. Joyce is co-author of the book "Economics and the Spiritual Life of Free Men", based on the work of Spencer Heath. She is also one of the founding residents of Ciudad Morazan, a private city in Honduras.
We talk about Spencer Heath's philosophy, and his belief that landowners are the obvious entity to provide public services. We talk about the manor system, which predated feudalism and was an embodiment of this view. And we talk about Cuidad Morazan, which Brand hopes will overcome current political obstacles and flourish as a modern-day incarnation of Heath's vision.
