"Paradise is exactly like where you are right now… only much, much, better."
Laurie Anderson
I wrote a piece back in 2021, in which I argued that “We’re Already There” - that we already have everything we need to build a free society (or, more accurately free societies.):
“What if I told you that we're already living in Galt's Gulch?
“What if I told you that we don't actually need to find a bunch of like-minded people and go in on a big piece of land together, far away from everyone else, and build our own societies from the ground up?
“Not that there's anything wrong with that of course.
“But it's not necessary. We already have the tools at our disposal - most of them anyway - to create and maintain free societies right where we are.”
I then described what I think those tools are, talked about some actual solutions in the world that are based on these tools, and imagined one way that free societies might emerge as a result of people using these tools individually. You can read the whole thing here.
And if this is where your heart is, you might want to check out my membership group, “Building Parallel Solutions.” It’s for people who are committed to doing just that – and membership is open for the rest of this week only.
You can go here to find out more.
I wish your Parallel Solutions group well and hope lots of people join, if that proves to help advance the progress of freedom. If membership doesn't meet expectations, perhaps it's because significant number of others are like me in tending to feel that progress might best be made with "spontaneous order", each of us acting with an internal focus. I acknowledge that part of the equation for me is that belonging to any pro-freedom group inevitably paints a target on the individual in the eyes of the government. Not that I'm shy about asserting things that are certain to get me on government lists, such as favorably quoting Solzhenitsyn's "And how we burned in the camps..." line, which explicitly advocates defensive force against unjust government actions. And not that I think your Parallel Solutions group is particularly likely to attract more than a passing frown from government, if that. Still, I weigh in that aspect of the picture.
Speaking of parallel solutions, my small individual contribution is a steganography program, which conceals that private information is embedded in an innocent-looking sound or image file, at https://www.adaptune.com/steg.htm . The government views encrypted communication with heavy suspicion, and seems headed toward mandating that all communication must be in plaintext or, if encrypted, must have a backdoor key. Steganography does an end run around all that, allowing private communication right under the impotent nose of government.
