Great discussion! Especially liked Kaeley's point just before the 34:00 mark, regarding many Christian communities fanning the flames of gender confusion by insisting too rigidly on gender stereotypes. I've noticed the same problem in larger society -- the trans-positive movement has made sex stereotyping worse! -- and wonder how many people who don't support that ideology are nevertheless endorsing the underlying problem.

Good to see two writers I read regularly, teaming up for a podcast!

Yes! It's an important point, and one I don't hear a whole lot of folks bringing up. And thanks!!!

I was both surprised and keenly interested on the focus of your discussion today, as I have similar questions in this area. I am still troubled with the idea of discarding certain parts of the Bible whilst strongly adhering to others — that seems too conveniently subjective to me. (Everything in its context, I know…)

So much of me would like to believe wholeheartedly again, but I have suffered too much indignity in the hands of the church and her (?) believers, it’s a huge stumbling block for me to think about opening my heart and mind to trust in any ‘God’ again.

I prefer to think in terms of Nature, Energy, & The Universe for the time being.

The Bible is not anti-woman, nor is the Bible pro-woman. Churches may be pro-woman or anti-woman, but there are reasons Jesus counseled His disciples to beware the leaven of the Pharisees.
