I remember some years ago that David Friedman had a book and some videos on his vision of a stateless society. It's somewhat similar to Bob's, from what I can recall. I remember, specifically, Friedman saying that his vision is just ONE possibility among near-infinite types of possibilities for organizing a stateless society. I think these proposed scenarios are wonderful for those that retort with "but, but, how?!" when you bring up the concept of people evolving to want and actualize a stateless society. These various visions could also be great framework (or even a foundation) to consider for building order and the provision of vital services as such a society comes into being.

...and here's another one, Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash", which I think is the best fictional account of one possible AnCap world:

Bob said: "And so the two specific attributes of the state that I have in mind are the fact that it engages in taxation and that it claims, at least within a certain territory, a monopoly on the determination of the legitimate use of violence"

I define government, or the state, as a framework through which folks rob folks to finance up-to-lethal enforcement of folks' opinions by folks against folks.

Talking about "the state" obscures that folks act against folks. A better definition of "the state" could be:

And so the two specific attributes of the state ... are the fact that [folks] engage in taxation and that [folks] claim, at least within a certain territory, a monopoly on the determination of the legitimate use of violence
